Widget Wrangler is no longer maintained. The features it provides — page-by-page widget management, PHP in widgets — have better alternatives in modern WordPress (block editor, Full Site Editing, block widgets). Keeping this plugin installed is not recommended.
Security
Version 2.4.0 addresses a reported critical vulnerability (CVSS 9.1) in which users with Author-level access or higher could execute arbitrary PHP code via the Display Logic field. This release restricts the entire plugin to administrators only and adds additional hardening. However, the plugin’s architecture relies on PHP eval() in multiple places and this will not be further remediated. The safest course of action is to remove this plugin entirely.
If you are currently using Widget Wrangler, migrate to one of the following modern alternatives before removing it:
The WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) for per-page content control
Full Site Editing (FSE) for template-level widget placement
A maintained blocks plugin for sidebar and widget area management
