How Does BerqWP Work?
BerqWP v4 introduces two optimization methods: Local and BerqWP Cloud.
Local (Free) runs entirely on your own server using PHP. No account, no license key, no external dependencies. It includes core optimizations: full-page caching, lazy loading, LCP preloading, image dimension attributes, URL prefetching, prerender on hover, and font optimization. It is our way of giving back to the WordPress community.
BerqWP Cloud (Premium) performs every optimization on our cloud infrastructure using the Photon Engine. This is not just a superset of Local. It is a fundamentally different level of optimization. BerqWP Cloud handles everything: critical CSS generation, WebP conversion, Fluid Images, JavaScript execution tuning, CDN delivery, and Web Vitals Analytics. Beyond features, BerqWP Cloud delivers broader compatibility with themes and plugins through real-time patches that are applied automatically as the WordPress ecosystem evolves, without requiring a plugin update.
Here’s how BerqWP Cloud works:
The plugin sends only two things to our servers: your page URL and your plugin settings. Nothing else leaves your server.
Our cloud servers fetch your page directly using Cloudflare Workers, which are far less likely to be blocked by hosting firewalls than traditional server-to-server requests. All optimization is performed on BerqWP’s own cloud infrastructure.
Every optimization is applied on our cloud servers: image conversion, critical CSS generation, lazy loading, JavaScript execution control, and more.

Fluid Images is one of BerqWP’s most powerful features. It automatically serves each image at exactly the right size for the visitor’s screen and in the best format their browser supports, without any manual work or changes to your original files.
How it works:
BerqWP replaces standard tags with responsive versions that include a full srcset of size variants: 200w, 400w, 600w, 800w, 1000w, 1200w, and the original width.
Images are delivered from BerqWP’s dedicated image CDN at images.berqwp.com, which selects the optimal format based on the visitor’s browser.
Format cascade: AVIF (smallest file size, best compression) → WebP (broad browser support) → original format (full fallback). Format selection is handled server-side using the browser’s Accept header. The image URL never changes.
Images are lazy loaded with an inline SVG placeholder that matches the exact dimensions of the original, preventing any layout shift (CLS) while the real image loads.
The sizes attribute is automatically set using responsive breakpoints, so the browser always requests the smallest image that fills the container. No oversized images on mobile.
Original files are never modified. File extensions remain unchanged. Format delivery happens transparently via the Content-Type HTTP header.
