Most teams run their daily communication on the free tier of a big-name chat tool, and discover the catch too late: the history disappears, the meters start running, and the knowledge your team wrote down lives on somebody else’s server.
Altius Workspace takes the opposite view. Your team’s conversations and files are an asset, and assets belong on your own site, in your own database, where nothing expires and nobody’s AI reads your data.
Talking together
Chatrooms with permanent history: channel-wide or private invite-only rooms, live links, who’s-in-the-room presence, and file sharing (images, documents, MP3, MP4 played inline, up to 50MB). Amber indicators show rooms with new activity.
Direct messages with CC, live links, quick emoji replies, voice notes recorded in the browser, and up to four attachments per message (200MB combined).
A desktop reading pane on wide screens, and optional Slack-style desktop notifications per device.
A Q&A forum where answers are marked and stay findable: chat for the flow, forum for the knowledge.
Channels scope everything
Each channel (team, cohort, or client) is a private world: its resources, discussions, events, and chat are visible only to its members. People see only their own channels.
Files, events, and the rest
Resource libraries for images, video, audio, and documents up to 500MB per file, with chunked uploads that work on modest hosting and video streamed in the page.
An events calendar with month and day views, one-click RSVP, multi-day and recurring events, and checkbox-selected email invitations.
A curated weblinks library, a member directory, welcome emails with templates and a full send log, and a searchable in-product help system with getting-started tips.
Rename any section to match how your business talks; every person arranges their own sidebar and dashboard.
Roles without wp-admin
Administrators, Altius Editors (staff who never need the WordPress dashboard), and Members, with per-person permissions for uploads, channel creation, and plugin-file (zip) uploads.
What Pro will add
Google Drive storage, full member-to-member messaging with safeguards, custom branding, event reminders, closed-browser push notifications, senior-editor admin tools, and connection to the wider Altius ecosystem. The free version is complete and stays that way.
