AI systems are answering questions about your business right now. When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity about your services, they either get it right or they guess. Most of the time, they guess wrong, confusing you with competitors, fabricating services you don’t offer, and recommending someone else entirely.
AI Discovery Files fix this. They are machine-readable files at the root of your website that tell AI systems exactly who you are, what you do, and how to refer to your brand. Think of them as robots.txt for AI, except that instead of telling crawlers what to ignore, you tell AI systems what to get right.
This is the only WordPress plugin that generates all 10 AI Discovery Files defined in the AI Discovery Files Specification. Output conforms to specification v1.13.0.
Why your website needs AI Discovery Files
Without AI Discovery Files, AI systems have to infer your business from whatever they happen to crawl, and they often get it wrong. With them, you give every major AI system one authoritative source of truth: who you are, what you do, what you do not do, and how to refer to you. You cannot control what an AI says about you. You can control what it has to work from.
This is not traditional SEO. This is AI visibility, also called generative engine optimisation (GEO) or answer engine optimisation (AEO). Whatever you call it, it starts with AI Discovery Files.

Who needs this?

Who built this
This plugin was built by Mark McNeece, founder of 365i. He first published the term “AI Discovery Files” on 15 December 2025, moved the definition and specification to their own domain in January 2026, and has versioned them in public since. He defined the category the term names and wrote the AI Discovery Files Specification that standardises the 10 file types. The person who named and specified the standard wrote the plugin, which makes this the specification’s reference implementation rather than one vendor’s reading of it. Conformance issues found in implementation feed back through the specification’s own versioning process, so the document and the plugin stay in step by design rather than by coincidence.
Credit where it belongs: llms.txt was created by Jeremy Howard at Answer.AI, and the specification names the prior art it builds on. Several of these files existed as separate conventions before the specification did. What did not exist was a name for the category and a standard defining it, and that is what “AI Discovery Files” provides: 10 defined file types across three implementation tiers, with conformance rules, versioning, and a public version history anyone can audit.
The specification is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, so anyone is free to implement it, competing plugins included, as long as the specification text is credited to AI Visibility (ai-visibility.org.uk). Every file this plugin generates carries a specification attribution line for the same reason: whatever reads that file can trace it back to the standard it follows.
